Basin events calendar for May 2025

COLUMBIA BASIN — May is here, and the Basin is making the transition from spring to summer. Here are a few of the things that are happening this month. 


May 2 


Coffee and Conversation 

Every month, the Downtown Moses Lake Association hosts a different presentation from employees or business owners in Moses Lake. This is open to the public, and the coffee is free. This month’s topic is the impact of homelessness on our community. 8:30 a.m. at Mason’s Place, Smith Martin Building, 102 E. Third Ave., Moses Lake. Info: [email protected] or 509-770-1700. 


Free Family Saturday: Sea Glass Birds 

No plans to head to the beach this summer? The Moses Lake Museum & Art Center will bring sea glass collecting to you with this darling activity: turning sea glass into a mixed-media art piece. Spring Market 

Shop local vendors for homemade yard art, fresh pies, antiques, outdoor furniture and more. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday at RNR Garden Creations, 4101 Dunn St. NE, Moses Lake. Info: 509-989-4352. 


‘Steel Magnolias’ 

Head on over to Truvy’s Beauty Salon, where the curlers are hot and the gossip is hotter. “Steel Magnolias” is a modern classic filled with laughter, love, and the strength of female friendship. Presented by Moses Lake Drama Boosters. Tickets $15 at our.show/mlhsmagnolias. All proceeds support the Moses Lake High School drama program. 7 p.m. Friday, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday. Wahluke FFA Plant Sale 

Support Future Farmers of America and enhance your garden at the same time. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Wahluke FFA greenhouse, 502 N. Boundary Road, Mattawa. Info: 509-932-4477. 


May 3-4 


Cinco de Mayo Festival 

Giant slides, inflatable jousting, bouncy house and obstacle course, interactive arena, mechanical bull, laser tag, crafts and mini-golf. May 6 


MLHS Jazz Dessert Social and Auction 

Get ready for a wonderful evening of smooth tunes and sweet treats. Enjoy a live performance by the Moses Lake High School jazz choir students while indulging in a variety of delicious desserts. The evening also features a silent auction. Proceeds support the MLHS choir program. May 8 


Hula Hoop Rug Class 

Learn to make a small rug or chair pad using a hula hoop and old T-shirts. These fun, colorful rugs can be made in less than an hour and require no previous skills to learn. The class includes tips and tricks for upcycling T-shirts into useful items. All materials are provided; you will finish a rug in this class and leave with a completed project. For ages 16 and over. Singo 

Singo is a new and exciting musical spin on the traditional game of Bingo. Instead of listening for a number, players are listening to their favorite music. Each player receives a free Singo card printed with the titles of popular songs. While Singo randomly plays song clips, players can sing along and mark matching song titles on their cards. The first player to mark five songs in a row and to shout "Singo" wins the round. Admission is free and prizes will be awarded. May 9 


H.E. Gritman Senior Center Fundraising Breakfast  

Enjoy a homemade breakfast of pancakes and sausage or biscuits and gravy and sausage. Cost is $7 and all ages are welcome. All proceeds go to support the activities at the Senior Center. 7:30-10 a.m. at 118 W. Main Ave., Ritzville. Info: 509-659-1921.  


Rhinestone Wall Shrimp 

Celebrate National Shrimp Day, observed on May 10, and create an aluminum shrimp bedazzled with pink rhinestones to add to an interior wall at home or work, because why not? This conversation piece may not be seaworthy, but it will shine bright like a diamond. 4-5:30 p.m. at the Moses Lake Public Library, 418 E. Fifth Ave.  Info: 509-765-3489. 


Lighthouse Fundraiser Dinner 

Chicken dinner and live auction with entertainment by Othello High School band and choir. All proceeds benefit Lighthouse Community Center youth programs. Rylei Franks

May 10 


St. Rose of Lima Coconut Crawl 

Participants run, walk or hula their way through a one-mile or 5K race and win a finisher lei at the end. Activities include chalk, bubbles and yard games. Proceeds support St. Rosa of Lima Catholic School. 11 a.m. at St. Rose School, 520 Nat Washington Way, Ephrata. Info: 509-754-4901. 


Guns & Hoses Charity Softball Game 

Join the Quincy Police Department, Grant County Fire District No. 3 and Columbia EMS for their first annual charity softball game. This fun, family-friendly event is a great opportunity to meet your local first responders while supporting a meaningful cause. Tanyalee Davis: ‘Unstoppable Me’

Friends of the Moses Lake Library Book Sale

‘Midnight in Soap Lake’ book signing

MLCA Crab and Prime Rib Feed

Create & Cackle  

Do you like to make stuff? Do you have a project unfinished? Want to just hang out and finish a project? Just drop in, have a drink and a snack and create. Knitting, drawing, sewing, crocheting, perler beading, coloring, painting, origami or basket-weaving – the only limit is what you bring. Spring Fest

    The H.E. Gritman Senior Center will hold its fundraiser breakfast May 9.
