Leading ladies: Moses Lake Museum exhibit celebrates the Washington women who led the way

The “Ahead of the Curve” exhibit highlights Washington women who have broken ground – and barriers – in a variety of fields, like broadcast journalism.
Maggie Waltho, mayor of Soap Lake from 1946 to 1950, is one of the local women showcased along with the “Ahead of the Curve” at Moses Lake Museum & Art Center. She refused to go armed after she fired the town marshal and took over his job, saying “Irish don’t carry guns. If necessary, I’ll use a shillelagh.”
The Nisei Women’s Club of Moses Lake raised money for Samaritan Hospital through an annual sukiyaki dinner. Women’s organizations established and supported many of the amenities we take for granted today.
MOSES LAKE — Washington, and the women who blazed its trails, will go on display Friday at the Moses Lake Museum & Art Center.
