Coronavirus: 117 cases reported in seven-day period

GRANT COUNTY — There were 18 new cases of the coronavirus reported in Grant County on Friday: six in the Quincy area, five in the Mattawa area, four in Moses Lake, two in Ephrata and one in Royal City, according to Grant County Health District.

In total, 405 cases had been reported in Grant County as of Friday. Over a quarter of all cases reported since the pandemic began, 117, were reported since the previous Friday, June 12.

Eight people sickened with the novel coronavirus are currently hospitalized.

As of Friday evening, Moses Lake had 125 confirmed cases, Quincy had 109 and Mattawa had 93.

The health district also published data regarding the employment sector of 377 Grant County patients, showing significant spread in agriculture workers and the retired or unemployed. Among the sectors listed, 119 work in agriculture, 113 were retired or unemployed, 35 work in health care, 28 in processing or manufacturing and 23 in retail or restaurants. Forty-two worked in other, unspecified sectors, while 13 work in education or child care.

In three cases, no information was available regarding the patient’s occupation, according to the health district.

The employment sectors of patients do not necessarily indicate where the person became infected with the coronavirus, the health district cautioned.
