For now, Spring Festival planning continues

MOSES LAKE — As of Wednesday, planning is continuing for the Moses Lake Spring Festival, scheduled for Memorial Day weekend.
Festival board president Sean Sallis said applications are still being accepted for the annual parade and the three-on-three basketball tournament, and that organizers have scheduled a carnival.
“We are moving forward like the festival is going to happen,” Sallis said.
Organizers are looking for sponsors as well.
“It’s our 40th anniversary,” Sallis said.
The situation could change if conditions change. If social distancing guidelines are still recommended by April 30, festival organizers will review their options. The Spring Festival committee has taken over sponsorship of the July 4 celebration, Freedom Fest, and one option is to move Spring Festival events to July 4, Sallis said.
Entry fees for the basketball tournament and the parade will be refunded if the event is canceled, Sallis said.
Other scheduled events include contests, music from local bands throughout the weekend and a Sunday afternoon concert by a performer as yet unannounced.
Some events are run by other organizations in conjunction with Spring Festival, including the annual 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer runs. BuDu Racing is still taking registrations as of April 1, but with the stipulation that events could be canceled.
The annual car show will be sponsored by Shade Tree Customs. If the Spring Festival goes on, the car show goes on, Shade Tree Customs owner Larry Camden said. But all planning is subject to change as the circumstances change, Camden said.
