Minor earthquake reported near Royal City

ROYAL CITY — A magnitude 2.5 earthquake was reported 11 miles southwest of Royal City at 3:45 a.m. on Friday.

This earthquake is the latest in a series of small rumblings that have been recorded in the southern part of Grant County since July 5. Royal City has registered two other seismic events – one on July 10 with a magnitude 1.1 and a magnitude 1.3 on July 8.

Desert Aire has had four seismic events. The largest was a magnitude 1.1 on July 9. Mattawa registered a magnitude 1.6 on July 5.

Friday’s event in Royal City happened close to an hour after two seismic events hit on the western side of the state. A magnitude 4.6 earthquake hit Three Lakes, Washington at 2:51 a.m., while Monroe, Washington experienced a magnitude 3.5 at 2:53 a.m.

Currently no damage has been reported in Grant County.
