| January 9, 2019 1:53 PM

FEDERAL WAY - Gut Check Challenge 285-pound champion Isaiah Perez of Othello was named to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association/Wendy's Athlete of the Week list for Week 17 (Dec. 16-Jan. 5), Wednesday.

The Huskies junior clutched up for Othello on Jan. 3 with a needed win (by fall) in the last match of the night for the dual victory against Ephrata. Days later, he won the Gut Check Challenge 285-pound championship with a big performance at a big meet featuring some of the best wrestling talent in the Pacific Northwest.

Each week throughout the school year, the WIAA recognizes varsity athletes who exhibited an outstanding performance for the previous week (based off of nominations). All varsity level students in good academic standing at their schools are eligible to receive the WIAA/Wendy's Athlete of the Week Award. Students may win the award once during any given academic year.

Nominations are open to athletic administrators, coaches, fans and members of the media, with a weekly deadline of Tuesday at noon.
