South county roundup: Othello baseball splits with Ephrata

EPHRATA — Othello maintained its second-place position in the CWAC Division I with a split in Ephrata, losing the opener 10-0 and taking the nightcap 11-1.

The Tigers opened up a 4-0 lead in the first inning and cruised in Game 1. Kyle Hendrick tripled and drove in three runs; Hendrick’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning ended the game.

Othello’s bats awoke in Game 2 with 11 unanswered runs. The Huskies were also able to take advantage of eight Ephrata errors. Sebastian Munoz scattered two hits in six innings of work.

Softball

Othello 19-8, Ellensburg 6-0

OTHELLO — Paulina Nunez and Ori Vasquez picked up wins in the circle and Othello swept Ellensburg 19-6, 8-0.

Breanna Marquina, Hailee Guzman, Nerissa Vasquez and Jazlyhn Verduzco finished with multiple hits in the opener.
