Quincy man cited for hit-and-run

EAST WENATCHEE — A Quincy man was cited for hit-and-run last week after he reportedly feel asleep at the wheel in East Wenatchee and damaged a telephone pole.
On Friday the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a report of recklessly driven pickup truck on Rock Island Road in East Wenatchee. Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal said he spotted the vehicle at Third Street Southeast and Rock Island Road. Gjesdal pulled the vehicle over and contacted the driver, identified as 80-year-old Quincy resident James E. Carpenter.
“The passenger side window was shattered and there was glass all over the inside of the vehicle. Mr. Carpenter had several small cuts from the glass,” Gjesdal said in a news release. “Mr. Carpenter said he’d dozed off and could not say what he hit. The right side of the vehicle was severely damaged, and the passenger side mirror was missing.”
Chief Deputy Steve Groseclose located the missing mirror, along with a damaged telephone pole, a few miles south of where Carpenter was stopped. Carpenter had minor injuries and was cited for hit-and-run.
“This is a good case for not driving when you are drowsy. We were grateful the driver was not hurt worse,” Gjesdal stated.
