Prep roundup: Quincy wrestling edges Ellensburg 30-29

QUINCY — Quincy saw its 17-point lead evaporate over the final three matches, but still hung on to beat Ellensburg 30-29.

The Jacks led 30-13 before Cade Stevenson earned a major decision against Ray Robinson (182) 21-8, Tyge Taylor pinned Jerry Hodges (195) and Corbin Coates pinned Ruben Vargas (220).

The Jacks held an early 9-6 advantage before winning five out of the next seven matches.

Rey Rubio (285), Raul Barajas (126) and Devon Salcedo (145) won by fall.

Quincy finished its Central Washington Athletic Conference dual schedule 5-4 and will compete at the District 5/6 2A Wrestling Tournament at Wapato on Feb. 3 and 4.

Ephrata 61, Prosser 14

EPHRATA — Ephrata won its final dual of the season against Prosser 61-14.

Mac Laird (195), Eli Guevara (220), Efrain Bedolla (285), Endy Pelayo (106), Will Anderson (138), Corbin Sager (152), Alan Maceda (160), Cole Spencer (170) and Drew Anderson (182) won by fall.

Ephrata will join the rest of the CWAC at the District 5/6 2A Wrestling Tournament at Wapato on Feb. 3 and 4.

Boys basketball

Grandview 67, Quincy 46

GRANDVIEW — Quincy trailed 39-23 at halftime and lost to Grandview 67-46.

Gunner Chronis led the Greyhounds with 19 points.

Trajan Trevino and Daniel Chavez had 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Jacks.

Warden slips out of first in SCAC East

A one-point loss at Kiona-Benton dropped Warden into second place in the South Central Athletic Conference East.

JR Delgado made a late 3-pointer to draw the Cougars within one point, but the Bears successfully inbounded the ball and won 59-58.

Delgado had a team-high 22 points and Adam Richins added 18.

Warden outscored River View 17-10 in the fourth quarter to win 46-38. Delgado led the charge with nine of his 15 in the quarter.

Warden trailed Wahluke by one game for first place. The Cougars and Warriors play twice this week.

Oroville 70, Soap Lake 56

OROVILLE — Soap Lake lost at Oroville 70-56.

Girls basketball

Grandview 62, Quincy 29

GRANDVIEW — Quincy struggled on the road and lost to Grandview 62-29.

Michelle Ruiz had 13 points and five assists for the Greyhounds.

Warden loses two close games

Warden was eliminated from postseason contention after a pair of close losses to Kiona-Benton and River View.

The Cougars lost to the Bears by one point, 40-39, and nearly knocked off second-place River View 51-46.

Against the Panthers, the Cougars squandered a nine-point halftime lead. Bailey Whitney poured in 18 points.

Whitney also scored a team-high 13 points against the Bears.

Warden sits three games back of Kiona-Benton in the win column for the final district playoff spot with three games to play. However, Kiona-Benton has won both games this season against Warden.

Oroville 45, Soap Lake 39

OROVILLE — Soap Lake was unable to climb the Central Washington 2B league standings, losing at Oroville 45-39.
