Prep roundup: 3 Chiefs into Tri-State semis

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Nick Hara (132), Hunter Cruz (152) and Chandler Fluaitt are into the semifinals of the Tri-State Tournament.

As a team, Moses Lake is 10th with 75 points. Post Falls leads the pack with 130.5 points.

Hara bested Capital’s Austin Iorga in the quarterfinals 5-0; Cruz won by major decision 9-0 against Josh Johnson of North Central; and Fluaitt pinned Pat Coulter of Moscow.

Currently, Othello is 26th with 37 points, Royal is 41st with 17 and Quincy is 50th with seven.

Girls basketball

Othello 43, Quincy 34

QUINCY — Othello picked up its first win of the season, beating Quincy 43-34.

Othello overcome foul trouble by starting point guard Macy Hampton in the first half and led much of the game. Senior Tanaya Andersen also provided a lift.

“She really helped us out on the board,” head coach Josh Tovar said.

Hampton led the Huskies with 14 points and Alexis Coronado added 10.

Warden 61, Royal 44

WARDEN — Warden outscored Royal 38-21 in the second half and opened SCAC East play with a 61-44 victory.

“I kind of challenged them,” head coach Dan Caballero said. “I said we needed balanced scoring.”

The team answered with three players in double figures. Natalie Cole scored a team-high 18 points; Aubree Skone and Bailey Whitney added 14 each.

Pateros 55, Moses Lake Christian Academy 12

MOSES LAKE — Young Moses Lake Christian Academy struggled against Pateros and lost 55-12.

“This year is going to be good experience for those young kids,” head coach Josh Kast.

The Lions have two eight-graders and two freshmen on the roster.

Rylee Homesley scored six points.

Liberty Bell 52, Soap Lake 31

WINTHROP — Soap Lake lost on the road to Liberty Bell 52-31.

Boys basketball

Warden 63, Royal 58

WARDEN — Warden dug itself out of a first-half hole to beat Royal 63-58.

The Cougars were outscored 19-7 in the second quarter and trailed 31-18 at halftime. Kaden Jenks led the Knights with eight points in the second quarter, 17 total.

Warden inched closer in the second half, outscoring Royal by six in the quarter and 12 in the fourth.

JR Delgado and Adam Richins scored 22 and 14 points, respectively. Tanner Skone had nine points and 15 rebounds.

Pateros 47, Moses Lake Christian Academy 35

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake Christian Academy was unable to overcome 18 first-half turnovers and lost to Pateros 47-35.

The Lions trailed 24-20 at halftime, but continued to shoot poorly in the second half.

Othello 68, Quincy 63 (OT)

QUINCY — Othello edged Quincy 68-63 on the road.

“It was just a close game,” Othello head coach George Juarez said. “No team really had more than a six-point lead.”

The Huskies missed two go-ahead shots in the final eight seconds of regulation.

Elias Valdez scored 20 points to lead Othello; Kyler Villarreal added 19.

Soap Lake 45, Liberty Bell 34

WINTHROP — Soap Lake moved to 4-1 with a 45-34 win at Liberty Bell.
