MOSES LAKE - Daiman Vasquez and Caleb Juarez have been selected to play for the Northwest Elite 13U Baseball Team that will be traveling to Aberdeen, Maryland in August.

The two are part of a 14 player roster that will have an opportunity to play up to six games at Ripken Stadium, which is home to the Aberdeen Ironbirds, a Single A team affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles.

"We qualified for the team after a tryout in Wenatchee," Daiman said. "There were a lot of kids there and we were excited to be selected."

The boys will be making the 2,600 mile trek across the country with Caleb's older brother. It is the greatest distance either has been away from home without their parents.

"We've been playing together since we were 9 years old," Caleb said. "The farthest we've traveled was to Idaho for a regional tournament in 2012. We took third place."

Daiman and Caleb are counting on the community of Moses Lake to help them raise enough money to make the trip back east.

Both are willing to do odd jobs for the needed funding, and are also hoping people will want to make donations to help cover their expenses.

Community members willing to make donations or have work the boys can do to earn their way to Maryland are asked to contact Steve Juarez at (509) 760-4771 or Josie Kinney at (509) 855-6443.
