Reader disagrees with election district lines

Text

Grant County residence should look very closely at the proposed new boundaries of the PUD's election districts. It has been gerrymandered to give the industrial areas in Moses Lake an unfair advantage in the election of PUD Commissioners. It would be possible, if these boundaries were approved, that three like minded people (with a majority vote on the board) living within a block of each other in the immediate Moses Lake area, could control the policies and rates of the PUD.

This unfair advantage could take place in two election cycles or in four years. In 2012, the District 1 position and A At-Large position is up for grabs. If the proposed boundaries go into effect the Moses Lake area could be represented on the PUD board by three Commissioners, (Districts 1 and 2 and B At-Large). This is another step in the domination of Grant County by the large industrial interest to give themselves favorable rates at the expense of the ratepayer.
