QUINCY - Quincy plans to offer a discount to people buying season passes for the city's pool.

The city council recently passed changes to the city's rates, allowing the recreation department to charge 15 percent less for season passes sold between January and March 30.

The city normally charges $60 for an individual season pass, $150 for a family pass for up to five people living in the city, and $175 for a family of up to five people living outside of the city, according to city records.

"Previously we hadn't had anything to entice people to buy season passes earlier in the season, so everybody rushes in that first day," Recreation Director Russell Harrington said. "It clogs everything up."

The department is trying to provide an incentive for people to sign up for a season pass early, he said.

"Most of the pools in all the communities (around us) have some sort of early bird pass that is very similar to this price structure," Harrington said. "We were one of the few that didn't."
