DeTrolio runs for re-election as sheriff

MOSES LAKE — Grant County Sheriff Frank DeTrolio is running for re-election.

“I have no desire to retire,” he said. “I have several things I would still like to accomplish.”

DeTrolio has been sheriff for nearly eight years and said he’s helped improve the service from the sheriff’s office.

A priority goal of his is to obtain a new facility for the drug task force. He said the current building is out-dated.

“I need to get them out of there,” he said.

DeTrolio said it’s important for the new facility to be close to the Grant County Prosecutor’s Office and the Grant County Courthouse to get search warrants signed immediately, while providing a level of confidentiality due to the issues the task force deals with.

Prior to being sheriff, DeTrolio was a deputy for 29 years with the sheriff’s office. He’s worked as an ORV deputy and a warrant deputy.

Before he was in law enforcement, he was a firefighter for 10 years with the U.S. Air Force and Boeing, focusing on air crash rescue. He was also the assistant fire chief with the Port of Moses Lake Fire Department.

DeTrolio said what drives his passion for law enforcement is being able to help people.

“I don’t think there’s any other job that could be more rewarding,” he said.

His other goals include expanding the law enforcement facility at the Grant County Fairgrounds. There are plans to add a second story to the building and possibly house the motor traffic unit there.

DeTrolio wants to build up the sheriff’s office personnel numbers.

“We are doing more with less,” he explained.

Over the past several years, there were cutbacks in the number of road deputies while the county population has grown by 12,000 people. He said it’s important to get deputy positions back after they were cut.

“I think I’ve been a proven leader for the last eight years,” DeTrolio said. “We’ve done a lot more with a lot less.”
