Robert (Bob) Douglas Nielsen

Robert (Bob) Douglas Nielsen, 68, of Royal City, passed away Sunday May 9th with his dear wife at his side.

He was born April 18th, 1942 in Anaconda, Montana to Jerry and Annie Nielsen.

Bob was raised in Anaconda and graduated from Anaconda High in 1960. He then went on to Western Montana College of Education in Dillon, Montana where he was quarterback of the football team. He received a degree in business education in 1965.

While at Western, he met his wife. He married Margaret Colleary of Quincy, Washington in February of 1963. Bob and Margaret had two children, David and JoAnn. He taught school and coached in St. Anthony, Idaho for two years before the family moved to Royal City. Bob continued teaching and coaching multiple sports for 37 years.

Although Bob retired in 2005, he volunteered countless hours coaching and mentoring. During retirement, Bob and Maggie enjoyed traveling, golfing, and most importantly spending time with their grandchildren, Maggie, Abigail, Elliot and Ivy. He especially enjoyed teaching them how to golf and fly-fish, as well as watching them compete in gymnastics.

His son David preceded him in death in 1983, as well as his father Jerry. Survivors include his wife Margaret, a daughter JoAnn and son-in-law Kim Delay; four grandchildren, Maggie, Abigail, Elliot and Ivy all of Royal City; his mother Annie Nielsen, of Anaconda, MT; three brothers, Jerry (Mary Rose) of Anaconda, MT, Jack (Judy) of Tri-Cities, and Dave (Judy) of Ellensburg; two sisters, Marlene (John) Barnes of Anaconda, MT, and Janet (Robert) Steffan of Phillipsburg, Mt; brothers in law Charles (Delsie) Colleary of Quincy, and Jim (Teri) Colleary; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many special friends.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 15th at the LDS Church in Royal Camp. Arrangements are in care of Kayser’s Chapel & Crematory. Please sign the book or leave a note for the family at www.kayserschapel.com
