Lee elected as prosecutor

COLUMBIA BASIN — Several winners in Columbia Basin political races were determined Thursday night after more ballots were counted.

In Grant County, about 200 ballots remain to be counted.

There are 32,684 registered voters in Grant County and 17,644 voters or 53.98 percent participated in the general election this year.

The Adams County Auditor’s Office has roughly 300 ballots left to count. The next count is expected to be tonight.

There are 6,078 registered voters in Adams County and 2,936 voters, or 48.31 percent, participated in the general election this year.

State measures

Initiative 1033 was favored in Grant County with 50.49 percent or 8,607 votes in favor of the initiative to limit government revenue. Adams County voters mostly opposed the measure with 1,470 voters against and 1,00 in favor. I-1033 is failing on a state level as 56.82 percent or 738,445 voters voting no and 43.18 percent or 561,140 voted in favor, according to the state auditor’s office.

Referendum 71, to approve of same sex unions, was rejected by Grant and Adams counties. In Grant County, 71.32 percent or 12,286 voters rejected the proposal, while 28.68 percent or 4,941 voters approved. In Adams County, 1,824 voted to reject the measure while 680 were in favor. The measure is passing with 52.05 percent or 697,032 voters in the state approving R-71 and 47.95 percent or 642,176 voters rejecting it.

Grant County Prosecutor

Grant County Prosecutor Angus Lee received 50.90 percent of the votes and will continue to serve as prosecutor for one more year. Lee has 8,321 votes and Grant County Deputy Prosecutor Albert Lin has 8,027 votes. The margin narrowed to 294 votes and only 200 votes are left to count, according to the Grant County Auditor’s Office.

Coulee City Council

D. Faye Casebeer is leading candidate Jennifer Schwartz with 124 votes for councilmember position five. Schwartz has 93 votes.

Richard Heiberg is leading candidate Philip Isaak with 119 votes for the mayoral position. Isaak has 103 votes.

Ephrata City Council

Incumbent Mark S. Wanke will continue serving the city council. He has 1,289 votes and challenger Clarke A. Morris has 561 votes.

George City Council

Mary Lynn Huntwork has the lead over candidate Donald Entzel with 39 votes for councilmember position 3. Entzel has 9 votes.

Mattawa City Council

Silvia Barajas maintains her lead over challenger John T. Ball for councilmember position three. Barajas has 28 votes and Ball has 12 votes.

Moses Lake City Council

Incumbent Bill Ecret won his election and will continue to serve the council. He has 1,772 votes and challenger Jason McCreary has 1,446 votes. The difference is 326 votes.

Candidate Karen Liebrecht won a seat on the council. She received 1,815 votes while incumbent Mayor Ron Covey has 1,574 votes. The difference is 369 votes.

Incumbent Brent Reese maintains his place on the council. He has 1,630 votes. Challenger Darrin Jackson has 1,412 votes. The difference is 218 votes.

David Curnel won a seat on the council. He has 1,702 votes. Candidate Tom Hayes has 1,450 votes.  The difference is 252 votes.

Quincy City Council

Jeremy McCreary will begin service on the council. He has 425 votes. Candidate Candy Bennett Houston has 280 votes.

Incumbent Jim Hemberry will continue his service as mayor with 639 votes. Challenger Councilmember Keith Paul Anstine has 132 votes.

Soap Lake School District

Wanda Fencl maintains her lead over incumbent John Marthini for director position two. She has 491 votes and he has 357 votes.

Incumbent Curtis Dotson has a small lead over challenger Wayne Turner for position five. Dotson has 413 votes and Turner has 407 votes.

Moses Lake School District

Kevin Donovan holds his lead over candidate Pete Knittle. Donovan received 3,631 votes. Knittle has 3,512 votes.

Grant County Fire District 12

Mark Kane maintains his lead over Dallas Kimble for commissioner position two with 121 votes. Kimble has 80 votes.

Grant County Fire District 3

Court Rylaarsdam previously had a small lead over Leroy Schaapman for commissioner position one. They are now tied with 637 votes.

Port of Moses Lake

Brian P. McGowan will begin service as a port commissioner after receiving 3,768 votes. Incumbent David Plate has 1,994 votes.

Grant County Hospital District 2

Darrall Van Dyke will serve as commissioner with 1,375 votes. Candidate Aaron Doyle has 451 votes.

Othello

Councilmember Tim Wilson will take office as the new mayor of Othello. He obtained 472 votes and challenger Councilmember Ken Johnson obtained 218 votes.

Othello councilmember position one candidate Genna Dorow obtained 588 votes. She is running unopposed.

Othello councilmember position two candidate W. John Reneau obtained 550 votes. He was running unopposed.

Othello councilmember position three incumbent Ken Caylor obtained 569 votes. He is running unopposed.

Legislative District 9

Candidate Susan Fagan, R-Pullman, continues to lead candidate Pat Hailey, R-Mesa, in the race for the state representative position. Fagan has 13,482 of the votes district wide and 785 votes from Adams County. Hailey has 11,382 votes district wide and 1,754 from Adams County.
