Adams County Fair starts Wednesday

OTHELLO - Anyone dressing patriotic is in synch with this year's Adams County Fair theme, "Color me Country."

"We just want to show our country colors, red right and blue," said Fair Office Manager Charlette Johnson.

The Adams County Fair opens Wednesday at the fairgrounds in Othello at 830 S. Reynolds, and runs through Saturday. Admission costs $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and youth ages 7 to 11. Children under seven are admitted for free. A family pass for two adults and children are $20 per day.

Bruce and Betsy Mullen return to perform at the fair in Othello. Johnson said kids are expected to be the most excited about the tractor pull and a gentleman in face paint who changes balloons into animals and hats.

"Cosmo the Clown will be returning and he's popular with the kids and the older adults," she said.

The tractor pull pits children's strength and agility as they try to out-pedal each other to win.

New this year are the Rhinestone Ropers, performing throughout the fair's four days.

"They are a roping act, a family, mother, father, son, and the son is a world champion roper. So is the father," Johnson said.

The demolition derby takes place Wednesday night with the gates opening at 3 p.m. and time trials starting at 5 p.m. Tickets cost $8 with children under 6 years old being admitted for free.

The Othello Rodeo 2007 starts Friday night at 8 p.m. and finishes on Saturday night, starting at 8 p.m. Friday is Family Night and families are encouraged to attend. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for children from 6 to 12 years old. Children under 6 years of age are admitted for free.

Nashville's own, Bruce Mullen is coming to Othello to bring his rendition of many old time favorites; Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and many others during the fair as entertainment, according to fair organizers.

Adams County Fair Vice President Roy Dodge said approximately 24 inside vendors and about 30 outside vendors represent various businesses, provide snacks including candy and popcorn, and have activities available like T-shirt art.

"We have a good variety of vendors," he said.

Vendor hours are 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.

The carnival returns with rides for the family and remains open until midnight.

The Tammie Ryan Super Science Show offers games and puzzles with a science spin.

"It's 100 percent participation," Johnson said.

Magician and juggler Paul Isaak performs each day of the fair on the main stage.

"He's awesome," Johnson emphasized.

Contests include a Karaoke contest and a competition to see who brings the most unusual, biggest potato.

"There's a $100 first prize for the most unique and a $100 first prize for the largest potato," Johnson said.

Fair entries for all non-animal exhibits are accepted Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., Johnson said.

Johnson has some expectations for spuds at the contest.

"I'm hoping at least a foot long, don't you think that would be cool?"
