MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake School District announced Tuesday that it has appointed veteran teacher and administrator Nikki Mackey as the new “planning principal” for the soon-to-be-built Groff Elementary School.

“Mackey brings a great deal of experience and understanding of the Moses Lake community,” said superintendent Joshua Meek in a press release. “Groff Elementary is the premiere of our newest and most efficient elementary school design and we cannot wait to have this school serve students on the east side of our community.”

According to MLSD, Mackey — a graduate of Moses Lake High School — has worked at Frontier Middle School and MLHS and has served as the principal at Knolls Vista Elementary for the past nine years.

Meek said Mackey will continue to serve as the principal of Knolls Vista while she oversees the planning for Groff Elementary.

“I am so excited to open Groff,” Mackey said in a press release. “I’m looking forward to paving new and exciting opportunities for our students.”

Construction on Groff Elementary, named after longtime school board member Vicki Groff, is set to begin this summer, with the school expected to open in the fall of 2021.
