March 17, 1979 – May 14, 2020

On Thursday, May 14, 2020, Kelly Ellingson passed away due to an accidental drowning while doing what he loved, fishing.

Kelly Steven Ellingson was born on March 17, 1979, in Tacoma, Washington, to Steve and Sandi Ellingson. He lived in Yelm, Washington until he moved to Moses Lake with his mom and sister in 1991. Kelly began his early years going to school in Yelm. After moving to Moses Lake, he attended the public schools through junior high and attended Day Star Christian Academy through high school, graduating in 1997. After high school, Kelly attended Big Bend Community College pursuing the automotive program.

His mechanical abilities and knowledge began in very early childhood as he would spend hours under the hood a of a vehicle with his dad. Because he was an avid reader, Kelly continued to advance his mechanical and technological knowledge without end. Although his love for reading started at a very early age sitting on his mother’s lap, he never lost the desire to read all topics and continue to learn.

When not immersed in a mechanical or technological project, Kelly spent his time fishing with his wife Tina and their beloved dog Deucey. Whether from a boat or from shore, they shared the love of fishing together for over 12 years.

Most people who knew Kelly have commented for years that Kelly had the biggest heart and knew no strangers. Although he struggled with demons of his own, Kelly helped save many people from going down the path of self-destruction.

Kelly leaves behind the love of his life for over 12 years, his wife Jestina Ellingson, and his beloved fur companions, Smiley his cat and Deucey his dog and fishing companion. He also leaves behind his father Steve Ellingson, mother Sandi Casebolt, stepfather Dale Casebolt, sisters Ashley Taylor (Don) and Amber Casebolt, brothers Joe (Sherry) Kangiser and Chris Kangiser, stepsons Celton and Bonham Kimmell and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles.

He is preceded in death by grandparents Billie and Bruce Cook, Leona and Edwin Ellingson and David Casebolt and his uncle Herb Sweitzer.

A memorial will be planned at a later date.
