No major damage reported from ditch break

| March 31, 2020 11:03 PM

A pond formed in the parking lot of Quincy High School after a small lateral canal just north of the high school broke before midnight on Monday, March 30, according to Roger Sonnichsen, secretary manager for the Quincy-Columbia Basin Irrigation District.

The water in the ditch was turned off shortly after the break was reported. Repair work began on Tuesday morning.

“It was not a very large break,” Sonnichsen said. “We didn’t lose a lot of material.”

Water from the ditch break filled the staff parking lot of Quincy High School and ran into adjoining streets. No major damage from the ditch break has been reported. The amount of water lost is unknown.
