RENTON — The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) announced Tuesday that a spectator at the 1A, 2A Hardwood Classic in Yakima has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a press release.

The press release said that the Yakima Health District (YHD) informed the WIAA that the spectator only attended the tournament on Saturday, March 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The YHD also recommended the WIAA notify those that came in close contact with the individual to self-monitor for signs of COVID-19 for the next five days, through Saturday, March 21.

“The WIAA has notified schools and tournament-related personnel and would like to make fans aware of the situation as well,” the press release read. “It is not required nor recommended that attendees notify their local health organization at this time. However, if you begin to show signs of COVID-19 symptoms, contact your health care provider.”

Warden High School girls basketball competed at the 1A Hardwood Classic from Thursday, March 5, to Saturday, March 7.

The confirmed case at the 1A, 2A Hardwood Classic follows an announcement from the WIAA that a tournament worker at the 3A, 4A Hardwood Classic in Tacoma tested positive.
