Basin roundup: Odessa boys complete undefeated season with 1B state championship

SPOKANE — Odessa completed its bid for an undefeated season and won the Class 1B state championship 62-36 against Yakama Tribal.

The Tigers finished the season 27-0 after an undefeated football season last fall, the first time that had been accomplished since the 1B and 2B classifications were separated in 2007.

Ryan Moffet, the state’s all-time scoring leader, paced the Tigers with 28 points and scored seven points during a 14-0 spurt in the third quarter that put the game out of reach. The Tigers went from a 27-18 to 41-18 lead halfway through the third quarter.

In other 1B action, Almira/Coulee-Hartline beat Muckleshoot Tribal 69-46 on Friday before losing to Oakesdale 46-41 to place sixth.

College baseball

Big Bend 7-9, Pierce 0-4

MOSES LAKE — Big Bend got back into the win column with a Saturday weep of Pierce 7-0 and 9-4.

Moses Lake High School graduate Evan McLean hit a three-run homer in the second inning of Game 1. McLean finished with two hits, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Fellow Chief Vance Alvarado picked up the win after allowing no runs in six innings.

The Vikings scored five runs in the fifth inning to erase a 4-3 deficit in the second game. Zach Valdez doubled and Skyler Sadora was 3 for 4 with two RBIs.

Big Bend lost two games to Pierce on Sunday 12-6 and 3-1.

Big Bend softball had five games cancelled at the NWAC Inter-Region Tournament in Lacey due to concerns over coronavirus.
