Coronavirus: one death, 18 new cases reported in Grant County

GRANT COUNTY — One patient in Grant County sickened with the novel coronavirus has died, Grant County Health District announced Friday. The patient was the fifth county resident to die from complications related to the disease.

There were 18 new cases of the coronavirus reported in Grant County on Friday, the largest single-day reported increase in the county since the pandemic began, according to Grant County Health District.

These include eight cases reported to health officials Wednesday night after the daily update had already been published, according to the health district.

The newly reported cases included nine in Moses Lake, five in the Mattawa area, three in Ephrata and one in Warden.

The county’s total of confirmed cases was 288 on Friday. The health district also reported that 130 county residents had recovered from the coronavirus, six more since that figure was last updated Monday.

There were also 34 probable cases and 250 tests still pending results as of Tuesday evening.

Five people sickened with the novel coronavirus are currently hospitalized.

As of Friday evening, the Quincy area had 88 confirmed cases, Moses Lake had 84, and the Mattawa area had 64.

In addition to tests that have come back positive, 3,716 have come back negative.
