AMERICA PROTESTS-NEVADA

LAS VEGAS — Protesters in Las Vegas are no longer allowed to wear backpacks, carry large purses or push strollers after a police officer was shot at a demonstration protesting the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. The Las Vegas City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to pass the emergency temporary ordinance banning many types of baggage at protests to prevent concealed weapons and other potentially dangerous items from entering demonstration crowds. VIRUS OUTBREAK-NEVADA

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Nevada has seen more than a month of declining rates of coronavirus-related hospitalizations and positive tests for COVID-19, Gov. Steve Sisolak said Thursday. The governor said in a statement that Nevada has made significant progress meeting five benchmarks he set in late April in order to start easing restrictions on gatherings and business closures. BKN—VIRUS OUTBREAK-NBA

The NBA’s Board of Governors has approved a 22-team format for restarting the coronavirus-suspended season in late July at the Disney campus near Orlando, Florida, another major step toward getting teams back onto the court and playing games again. The format calls for each team playing eight games to determine playoff seeding plus the possible utilization of a play-in tournament for the final spot in the Eastern and Western conference postseason fields, the AP is told. NFL coaches will be allowed to return beginning Friday to team facilities closed because of the coronavirus pandemic as the league continues preparation for training camps and its season.
