MOSES LAKE — A ninth Grant County resident with the coronavirus has died, according to Grant County Health District. The patient was an Ephrata man in his 60s and had underlying conditions that increased his risk for severe complications from COVID-19, the health district wrote in a Thursday press release. The patient was not named.

“Grant County Health District is saddened by the loss of another community member,” the health district wrote.

There were 24 new cases of the coronavirus reported Thursday in the county, according to the health district: nine new cases in Moses Lake, four in Ephrata, four in the Quincy area, three in Soap Lake, three in Warden, and one in the Mattawa area.

A previously reported case was determined to be a resident of another county. That change plus the new cases brought the total of confirmed cases in Grant County since the pandemic began to 1,045. Nine residents infected by the virus are currently hospitalized, according to the health district.

As of Wednesday, 73 county residents had been hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19 since mid-March, a figure that is just under 7 percent of all confirmed cases, according to the state Department of Health.
