Prep roundup: MLCA girls win district title

EAST WENATCHEE — Head coach Josh Kast said winning a district championship was “a long time coming” for his group of girls.

The players had clocked over 50 games the last two summers, putting in the time and effort it takes to win a league championship and now a district championship. Moses Lake Christian-Covenant Christian held off second-seeded Pateros 51-43 to win the title and clinch a regional berth.

Kali Kast scored 19 points to lead the Lions; Deana Gulenko and Makiya Kast added 10 points apiece. Aleeka Miller-Smith scored 18 of the Nannies’ 43 points.

The Lions trailed 8-7 after one quarter before erupting for 23 points in the second.

Northwest Christian 39, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 30

SPOKANE — Lind-Ritzville/Sprague lost a defensive-minded game to Northwest Christian 39-30.

The loss eliminated the Broncos from the postseason.

The Crusaders were held to three points in the first quarter before scoring double digits in the next three. The Broncos scored at most 10 points in a quarter.

Dakota Killian led LRS with 15 points.

Boys basketball

Kettle Falls 52, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 49

SPOKANE — Lind-Ritzville/Sprague boys basketball was eliminated from the postseason by Kettle Falls 52-49.

Cade McKern made a go-ahead 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter to push the Bulldogs ahead. LRS was led by Carson Ayers’ 12 points; Cole Cameron scored 11.
