January 20, 1931 – January 31, 2020

Carl “Buck” Sheppard passed away Jan. 31, 2020.

He was born Jan. 20, 1931, in Orofino, Idaho, and grew up in Ellensburg, Washington. Upon completing his education he joined the U.S. Air Force. After serving two years in Korea he was stationed at the USAF Base in Salinas, Kansas, where he met and married Betty Lou Hollis on May 1, 1953. They settled and raised three sons in Moses Lake.

Buck was dedicated to his family and enjoyed teaching his sons how to build, maintain and enjoy all manner of toys, including go-carts, boats, a dune buggy and a school bus converted for camping, aptly named “Sheppard’s Sage Coach.” They enjoyed many vacations and camping trips with lifelong family friends Jim and Fran Campbell and their four children. Buck liked to be busy, and when he retired after working many years for Sears Roebuck he continued to be productive building houses. He took pride and was meticulous in his work; any project he took on had to meet his very high standards. After losing his wife Betty to cancer in 2007 Buck was blessed to find happiness again and married Fon Adams March 25, 2009.

Buck was loved by many, was liked by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Fon Adams; three sons Steve (Laurie), Mike (Carolyn) and Doug (Karen); nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. We thank the doctors, nurses, and sitters at Samaritan Hospital for their compassion and care that helped ease Buck, and our family, through his final days. Special thanks to Amanda, who possesses the soul of an angel.

A memorial is planned for Feb. 29, 2 p.m. at Grace Harvest Church, 313 Fig St., Moses Lake.
