Duck hunters are reporting new birds from all over Central Washington. The Columbia National Wildlife Refuge has been holding large number of ducks and geese now for two weeks. Most of Moses Lake is a no-shooting zone. For several weeks thousands of waterfowl have been using Moses Lake (Which is like a refuge) for their night roost. Waterfowl hunters would enjoy watching these many birds from the north as they exit Moses Lake each morning and just before dark as the ducks and geese return to Moses for their overnight roost. Goose hunting continues to produce limits or near limits all over Royal Slope on guided hunts.

Delia M. Vasquez, 66, a resident of Moses Lake, passed away Thursday evening, Oct. 29, 2015 at Samaritan Hospital surrounded by loving family. Viewing will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 3 at Kayser’s Chapel of Memories and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 4 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Holy Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 4 at Our Lady of Fatima followed by Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Guarding Angels Cemetery, 2595 Road L NE, Moses Lake.

Nellie Auda Quilici, 79, Moses Lake resident, passed away in the comfort of her home surrounded by family on Oct. 19, 2015. Nellie was born to John and Gladys (Rhodes) McLaren on January 4, 1936 in Dillon, Mont. Nellie was the youngest of 13 children. She lived in Dillon, Mont. as a small young child, until she graduated from Dillon High School in 1954. She was active in FHA, Pep Club,Drill team and she loved economics. Nellie would go on to help with the family blacksmith and plumbing business. She enjoyed the work; she was a people person, made friends quickly and loved talking to people. She met her “cowboy” in 1955; after much convincing from him to be his bride, she ended up marrying Ray Quilici on Aug. 22, 1956 at her parents’ home, John and Gladys McLaren. Nellie and her husband would settle in Dillon during the early years. Ray was a cowboy, which meant there would be a few moves along the way until they ended up settling in Odessa, Wash., for 47 years.
