YAKIMA The Red Raiders late surge fell just short in the opening game of the Red Hawk Classic, as Othello fell to West Valley 15-14.
A 12-run first inning gave West Valley a monstrous lead early in the game. The Red Raiders fought their way back cutting the deficit to just five runs after four innings. Three more runs would stretch the lead back to eight headed into the bottom of the seventh. Othello managed to score seven runs, but were unable to even the score in the end.
Trey Garza, Concepcion Sauceda, and Andre Garza each finished with a pair of RBIs and a double for Othello. Sauceda and Nathan Garza Jr. each had a triple as well. Jaxon Rocha and Garza Jr. each finished with three runs earned to lead the Red Raiders.
Othello outhit West Valley in the game 12-8. Both teams finished with a handful of errors, with the Red Raiders having five and West Valley six. The Red Raiders move to 17-14 on the season, and will continue play in the Red Hawk Classic today against Walla Walla.
