Red Raiders drop doubleheader at West Valley

West Valley 12, Othello 2

YAKIMA — The Red Raiders fell behind early after a big first inning from West Valley and never found traction in 12-2 defeat.

Othello went up 1-0 in the top of the first before the opponent put five runs on the board in the bottom of the inning. Three more in the third and fourth and a four-run sixth inning sealed the ten-run defeat.

West Valley managed 12 hits as a team, and no errors as a team. The Red Raiders knocked two runs off six hits. Nathan Garza Jr. and Trey Garza went 2-3 in the game. Garza Jr. scored a pair of runs while Trey Garza knocked an RBI.

West Valley 5, Othello 4

The Red Raiders lost the lead late in the second game in Yakima as West Valley took the sweep with a 5-4 victory.

Down 1-0 after one, three runs over the second and third gave the Red Raiders a two-run lead. After a run apiece in the fifth, West Valley scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to retake the lead for good.

West Valley had another strong showing from the plate, finishing with nine hits as a team, but couldn’t remain mistake-free in the field with three errors. Othello finished with five hits, and two errors in the game.

Jonathan Ozuna led the Red Raiders from the plate, going 2-3, while scoring a pair of runs. Jaxon Rocha, Sebastian Muñoz and Trey Garza each added an RBI, all finishing 1-3.

After four straight wins, the Red Raiders drop the pair to go to 13-11 on the season. Othello will face West Valley tomorrow at home in a double header for a chance at revenge.
