August 15, 1941 – November 14, 2017

Max Don McCombs passed away Nov. 14, 2017 with his family by his side. He was born on Aug. 15, 1941 to Fred and Lila McCombs in Warren, Oklahoma.

He graduated high school from Warren, Okla. in 1960 and then attended pharmacy school at South Western Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Okla. He entered the U.S. Army in 1968 and was stationed at Madigan Army Hospital, Fort Lewis. It was there that he met the love of his life, Janet Bjorke. They were married April 9, 1970.

Max and Janet moved to Othello following their marriage, where Max spent most of his years working at Potter Drug Store.

Max is a lifetime member of the Othello Rodeo Association. He served twice as president and was awarded Man of The Year and Committee Person of The Year. Typical of most Okies, Max spent his spare time riding horses and team-roping. Max and Janet were known for graciously opening their home to the PRCA cowboys when they were in the area. They always knew they would have a warm bed and a hot meal. He later worked as a pharmacy manager at Kmart in Moses Lake, until he moved to be the pharmacy manager at Moses Lake Community Health and later retired. Max gave privately and generously to the The Tipton Children’s Home in Oklahoma. Max never forgot his patients’ names. He always made himself available to his patients and it was common for him to go back to the pharmacy on every holiday if someone needed a prescription.

Max is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years Janet, daughter Kristine Blanksma (Dr. Pete Blanksma) and their three daughters Korynn, Madison and Ashton of Wenatchee, Wash. and daughter Jennifer Skone (Doug Skone) and their two sons Tanner and Kaden of Warden, Wash. He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Lila McCombs, brother Delmer McCombs and sister Patsy Netherton.

Following Max’s request there will be no funeral service. The burial will be private for family only. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Tipton Children’s Home, Tipton Oklahoma.
