MOSES LAKE - A 52-year-old Moses Lake man was critically injured Saturday night during a boating accident on Moses Lake.
Michael Hoffstot was operating a boat at around 9:15 p.m. when he struck a concrete wall along the shoreline near West Marina Drive, according to Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones.
Moses Lake police, firefighters and Grant County Sheriff's Marine Unit deputies responded to find Hoffstot in critical condition with injuries to his chest, including broken ribs and punctured lungs, Jones stated.
Paramedics began CPR and Hoffstot was transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake, later flown by MedStar to Providence-Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane where he was admitted to the intensive care unit.
Passengers Gloria Martinez, 54, and Wesley Hoffstot, 24, both of Moses Lake, declined treatment at the scene.
Martinez later was driven to Samaritan Hospital for treatment of injuries reportedly related to the crash, including heavy bruising to her upper back and shoulders.
The impact reportedly knocked out the entire lower unit of the boat, which took on water and was towed away the following day, during daylight hours.
Alcohol consumption allegedly contributed to the collision and sheriff's marine deputies are completing an investigation for consideration of charges of assault by watercraft, Jones stated.
Jones commended Moses Lake police and firefighters for the outstanding patient care they provided while the marine unit was en route.
