The Huskies put together back-to-back wins over Ellensburg and Wapato on the pitch to move to 3-0 in nonleague play.

Othello hit the road to take on the Bulldogs in Ellensburg March 13 and came away with a 1-0 win. The match was scoreless until freshman Naudys Borrero got a through ball to Juan Orozco who dribbled by two defenders and curved it around the Bulldogs keeper at the 70th minute of play.

“This could have easily been a 5-0 game but the circumstances did not allow for us to score as expected,” coach Bernie Garza said. “Hopefully when we play them later on in the season we will be better at finishing our shots.”

The Huskies hosted the Wolves on Saturday and it wasn’t much of a contest as Othello rolled past the team from Wapato 5-0.

“I told the guys to start shooting early and often to get some goals so we can play more relaxed and pass the ball around,” Garza said. “We got off to a great start scoring in the 3rd, 5th, and 19th minute marks of the first half.”

The three goals came from Juan Tapia (Arvin Arvizu assist), Bernie Garza Jr. (Arvizu assist), and Arvizu off an Juan Tapia assist.

The Huskies picked up where they left off in the first half with scores from Naudys Borrero (Garza Jr.) at the 48th minute, and from Christian Arvizu off a Garza Jr. assist in the 78-minute.

The Huskies out shot the Wolves 29-6

“They were playing short handed as they had academic, injury and other commitments and had to move some JV guys up to play varsity,” Garza said. “We knew that so actually took it easy on them. You don’t want to embarrass a team by scoring lots of goals, but we did what we needed to do scoring five and most importantly got the shutout.”

Wapato appeared to have avoided the shutout late when an Othello foul at the 18-yard box awarded the Wolves a penalty kick, which was converted. But one of the Wapato players stepped into the box before the kick was taken and the goal was disallowed.

The Huskies traveled to Tuesday for another nonleague tilt, but the results were not available at press time.
