Animal shelter calls for food, toys to cover shortage
MOSES LAKE — Grant County Animal Outreach is asking the public for donations of dog and cat food, as well as dog toys, to help cover a shortage.
“We need canned dog and cat food, and we’re short on dog toys,” said Ashlie Behner, the events and volunteer coordinator for Grant County Animal Outreach, which runs the Moses Lake Animal Shelter.
“We need toys for all sizes, but we have a lot of large breed dogs and not a lot of large dog toys,” she added.
Behner said the shelter preferred the pate canned pet food, as opposed to gravy canned food, since “kittens like it better.” The shelter uses the canned food to supplement the animals’ diets as well as a way to give them medicine.
Currently, the shelter houses just under 100 cats and dogs, Behner said.
Donations can be dropped off at the Petco at 911 N. Stratford Rd. In Moses Lake, the Nickel Saver at 1428 S. Pioneer Way in Moses Lake, or at the shelter itself at 6725 Randolph Rd. in Moses Lake.
The shelter is open from noon to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
