Manweller seeks hearings

| January 21, 2016 5:00 AM

OLYMPIA — Rep. Matt Manweller, R-Ellensburg, said Tuesday that House Republicans would take action to schedule hearings they were originally told would not happen. Manweller said some of the issues they want to address include tolling, charter schools and the transgender bathroom rule.

“There’s some frustration with how many voices are being silenced in the House,” Manweller said. “We have a variety of very serious issues that citizens from all over the state want to weigh in on.”

As an example, Manweller said he received hundreds of emails from parents in opposition to the rule that allows transgender individuals to use whichever bathroom they want.

Manweller said the House will move for a procedural vote, both in committee meetings and on the House Floor.

“It is a mechanism that is in the rules to allow a minority to call for a vote when the majority doesn’t want to give it to them,” he said.
