ROYAL CITY - The Royal High School Dance Team finished second in its category at dance districts, known as Pasco Dance and Drill Championships, on Saturday.

"Very proud of our girls, who increased their score with every performance," coach Michelle Schonewald said.

The Royal girls will participate in the WIAA (Washington Interscholastic Activities Association) State Championships at the Yakima Valley SunDome on Friday, March 27.

The Royal girls compete in the military dance category. Scoring is based on (TECHNIQUE), placement, control; (TEAM EXECUTION) clean execution, syntonization; (CONTENT) creativity, visual, complexity of routine; and (OVERALL EFFECT) program, showmanship, presentation.

Royal scored 227 points at Pasco, which is an "excellent" rating. Only 4A Moses Lake outdid the Royal girls with 249 points.

Military Dance is based on precision and sharp synchronized dance movements, precise symmetry, line straightness, transitions, and near perfect synchronization and also an interesting music selection. Royal chose transformer movie themed robotic and machine-like sound effects.
