EPHRATA - Grant County Public Records Officer Melissa McKnight said county residents are ready for a change as she leads Laure Grammar in the county assessor race.

Grammar, a two-term incumbent, is trailing McKnight by 3,413 votes with about 4,000 votes left to count, according to election officials.

"It feels very humbling, but I am ready to get to work," said McKnight on Tuesday night.

She said she found out on Monday the assessor's office would be moving, which she said would be a challenge, but a "fresh new start."

McKnight, who has lived nearly her entire life in Grant County, said county residents know her and her work ethic.

"I have a track record of doing the hard work, and I will continue to do that," she said.

She said it would be "interesting to see how the rest of the year goes," at the assessor's office.

She said she does not have any major changes in mind for the immediate future but is eager to assume her new role.
