Host families sought for JATP students

| May 7, 2014 1:00 PM

MOSES LAKE - Big Bend Community College officials are looking for families willing to host students entering the Japanese Agriculture Training Program.

Students in the JATP program spend 18 months working on farms throughout the United States. They arrive on May 7 and attend an orientation course at BBCC until May 30, college spokesman Doug Sly said.

Students stay at the BBCC dorms, but host families are asked to invite students into their homes for a meal and show them around the area. "We try to make sure every trainee gets to experience life in a local home from an American perspective," said Susan Blackwell, JATP English instructor.

People who want to act as host families can contact Teresa Mathews, 509-793-2297.
