Beverly Robinson Cade

| June 10, 2014 6:00 AM

Beverly Robinson Cade passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior on October 3, 2013. She was born on June 7, 1941 to Vera Hodges Schulze and Henry Schulze in Eugene, Oregon. Her mother later married Lyle Robinson and moved the family to a farm near Moses Lake, Washington. Beverly graduated from Moses Lake High School and went on to complete nurses training at Deaconess Hospital and Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington. After working for a short time at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle, Washington, she enlisted in the Air Force as an officer in response to their urgent plea for registered nurses. She met and married James Cade, Sr., a fellow member of the Air Force, when stationed in New Mexico. Their family grew to include a son, James Cade, Jr., and two daughters, Joy Cade Goodding and Janyce Cade. They lived for several years in Phoenix, Arizona.

In the late 1970's, Beverly and her children relocated to Glide, Oregon. She became an avid supporter of the Christian schools the kids attended: the Nazarene School of Roseburg and Umpqua Valley Christian School in Winston. Despite working nights as a nurse at the V.A. Hospital and Douglas County Hospital, Beverly often extended her work day to include volunteering at the Christian school as a classroom monitor and teacher.

The Christian faith was the cornerstone of Beverly's life. Whether offering encouraging words to a patient in the hospital or a student struggling to graduate high school, she strongly believed in sharing her faith daily. She loved to sing hymns, which she often sang as duets at North Umpqua Bible Fellowship in Glide, and also at home Bible studies. One could usually hear her humming a hymn as she rocked babies in the nursery at Southwest Bible Church in Beaverton, Oregon.

Beverly's favorite activities included playing card and board games, camping, cross-stitching, quilting, and canning. But her very favorite pastime of all was being a grandmother to Amanda Goodding. Beverly relished the gift God gave her to be able to spend her retirement being actively involved in Amanda's life, watching her grow into a lovely young lady and talented pianist.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Vera Hodges Robinson and Lyle "Tiny" Robinson. She is survived by son Jim Cade; daughters Joy Cade Goodding and Jan Cade; granddaughter Amanda Goodding; brother Kenneth Robinson; sister Betty Robinson Jones; aunt Emma Jean Hodges Jones McCord; nieces and nephews Colin Robinson, Michelle Robinson Homme, Megan Robinson Giglini, Ashley Robinson Parker, Timothy Jones and Michael Jones.

A Celebration of Life service was held on October 8th at Southwest Bible Church in Beaverton, Oregon. Immediate family and close friends gathered for a graveside service on October 7th at Wimberly Cemetery in Glide, Oregon.

P.S. Happy birthday, Mom! We love and miss you so much. Jim, Joy, Jan and Amanda.
