RICHLAND - The MLHS #1 doubles team of Carina LeFave and Kylee McKay wrapped up their stellar tennis season with a 1-2 record at the WIAA 4A Girls Doubles State Tennis Tournament over the weekend at the Columbia Basin Racquet Club

LeFave and McKay were the only Chiefs to make the state tournament and came just short of reaching the placing matches.

After losing their first match to Myint-Zu Kyaw and Hannah Rehfeldt from Edmonds-Woodway 3-6, 1-6, LeFave and McKay clobbered Olivia Coal and Darby Tinker from Skyview, 6-2, 6-0.

LeFave and McKay put together their best match of the season in their consolation round loss to Julia Lioubarski and Jasmine Ye of Skyline, according to Moses Lake tennis coach Rich Gregoire.

Lefave/McKay lost 3-6, 3-6, but Gregoire noted that of the 129 points played in the match, the Chiefs duo only lost by 13 points and Lioubarski/Ye finished eighth in the state tournament.

"Picking up a win at the state tournament was an accomplishment for Kylee and Carina," he said.

Next year, LeFave will continue her athletic career at Wenatchee Valley Community College where she recently signed a letter of intent to play volleyball, and McKay will return to MLHS for her senior year.
