Runnin' Vikes win two in a row

MOSES LAKE - After a shaky start to its league schedule, the Big Bend Runnin' Vikes rattled off two wins against Treasure Valley and Blue Mountains.
Big Bend (6-4, 17-7) sits in third place in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) East region. Despite posting a 3-2 record in the last five games, Big Bend still has the highest winning percentage in the region at .707.
Behind four Vikes scoring in double figures, Big Bend was able to hold off Treasure Valley for a 88-78 win.
Sophomore guard Brendan Westendorf scored a game-high 31 points and also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Fellow sophomore guards Victor Aguero and Kevin Walker added 17 and 10 points, respectively, while freshman forward Sean McDonnell was able to score 14 points and record seven rebounds.
In the second game of its back-to-back, Big Bend was able to eek out a 76-72 win against Blue Mountain.
Once again, Westendorf dominated scoring a game-high 28 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Westendorf also dished five assists.
Freshman forward Richard Black and Walker added 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Big Bend dominated the glass against Blue Mountain, outrebounding the Timberwolves 46-29.
Lady Vikings make it three in a row
Big Bend has surged back into the NWAACC East playoff picture after three straight wins, with the latest two coming at the expense of Treasure Valley and Blue Mountain.
BBCC (6-4, 16-8) bullied the Chukars on the glass en route to a 61-46 rebounding advantage. The Vikings built a nine-point halftime lead and cruised to a 79-64 victory.
Sophomore forward Jessica Sorensen and freshman guard/forward Riley Jemmett recorded double-doubles. Sorensen scored 16 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.
Jemmett led the Vikings with 18 points and added 11 rebounds.
Freshman guards Elizabeth Larrew and Aubrie Vale scored 14 points each.
Against Blue Mountain, Big Bend was able to nurse a five-point halftime lead and hold on to win, 69-66.
Vale fell one rebound shy of a double-double after scoring a game-high 22 points and grabbing nine boards.
Jemmett and Sorensen combined for 25 points against the Timberwolves.
