Grant PUD warns customers of scam

| April 23, 2014 6:00 AM

EPHRATA - Grant County PUD recently received reports of scammers calling customers and demanding credit card payment over the phone.

Four customers reported getting suspicious calls last week, spokesperson Chuck Allen said. This particular scam is not new, he said.

The scam resurfaces every three to four months.

"They call a bunch of people in the area, then word gets out and they move on to somewhere else then come back and call here again," he said.

Allen said fortunately, none of the customers fell for last week's string of calls.

PUD advises customers who receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to be from the agency, especially if they are demanding immediate payment, to hang up and call the Grant PUD customer service line at 509-766-2505 or 800-422-3199.

Customers then know for sure they are talking to an actual PUD employee.

All suspicious calls should also be reported to the local police.
