SUNNYSIDE - Moses Lake baseball completed its season sweep of Sunnyside Friday and pushed its winning streak to 10 games.

The Chiefs (6-0, 10-1) haven't lost since falling in the season opener to Mt. Spokane, 7-2, on March 18.

Moses Lake used a seven-run fifth inning in game one against the Grizzlies to close out an 11-1 victory. The Chiefs continued their momentum into the nightcap and won, 19-5.

"It took us a little while to get rolling, but we stayed in the game and guys were just able to kind of come through ... They didn't panic," head coach Quintz Whitaker said.

Ryan Pena, Cole Raymond and Drew Loera each drove in two runs during the first game. Loera and Pena also smashed three hits each.

Loera recently returned to the lineup after missing time with a sore wrist.

"It was big to get him back and start getting him warmed up as the season moves on," Whitaker said. "He's a big part of our squad."

Despite winning 10 straight games and starting CBBN play 6-0, the Chiefs remained tied in the standings with Eastmont and only lead Wenatchee by one game. The constant pressure applied by the Wildcats and Panthers should keep Moses Lake from overlooking any opponent.

"The things that we focus on are taking care of our series," Whitaker said. "Again, just taking one game at a time and trying to build something up. We actually try to break the season down into small pieces so right now we're just focused on Eisenhower 'cause we know that if we don't then we'll slip up."

Moses Lake will begin its series against the Cadets on the road Tuesday before hosting a Friday doubleheader April 25.

Chiefs rout Davis

YAKIMA - Moses Lake softball has begun Big Nine play with three dominant wins over the Davis Pirates.

The Chiefs (3-0, 5-2) completed there sweep of the Pirates with two wins on the road, 13-0 and 14-0.

"We played really well," head coach Dave Gregory said. "Our pitching was just totally dominant."

After dealing with a back injury to start the season, Peyton Ries has found her groove from the bump and threw five scoreless innings against Davis on Friday.

Ries fanned eight batters and gave up only one hit.

Tressa Radach paced the offense with three runs scored and five RBIs. Alyssa Balderas was also 4 for 4.

Marnie Skinner took the hill in the nightcap, striking out 14 batters and allowing one hit in five innings. Skinner closed the game with nine strikeouts in a row.

"I don't know if I've ever had that," Gregory said. "I don't care who you're playing that was quite a deal."

Hailee Bishop homered and Vanessa Rodriguez was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Moses Lake will travel to face Sunnyside on Tuesday before concluding its series with the Grizzlies at home Friday.
