ROYAL CITY - All seven Red Rock Elementary kindergarten classes got a special St. Patrick's Day treat on Monday, March 17.

All of the kindergarteners took a walking field trip to watch a performance by the 7th-8th grade advanced band led by band director Erich Mietenkorte.

The middle school students performed two numbers in preparation for their Junior High Band competition at the Pateros School District on Wednesday, March 19.

The band students also took the time to introduce each individual instrument to the kindergarteners. They played a few notes so the younger students could become familiar with the look and sound of each of them.

Mietenkorte called on a kindergartener, Emerson Eilers, to volunteer to stand next to a Tuba so others could see just how big these instruments are.

At the conclusion of the performance, the advanced band members broke into small groups with the students so students could see, and sometimes touch, the instruments up close.

"The kindergarten students really enjoyed the experience, and Mr. Mietenkorte and his students put on a great show," counselor Nicole Schwartz said.
