MOSES LAKE - Big Bend softball was able to end a three-game skid after taking one of two games from Blue Mountain recently.

The Vikings (1-7, 3-11) won the first game, 8-6, before dropping the night cap, 9-8.

Big Bend has struggled so far this season and is tied with Blue Mountain for last place in the NWAACC East.

During game one, Brinley Miller opened the scoring with a three-run home run in the first inning. It was her first of the season.

Big Bend's offense continued to flourish in the second after three straight singles by Marisa Saldana, Emma Stephens and Tiffany King-Phillips loaded the bases.

Erica Chandler was able to drive in two runs with a RBI double two batters later. The Vikings were able to notch two more runs after an error by Blue Mountain's second baseman and led 7-0 after two innings.

Chandler pounded a solo home run, her third of the season, in the fourth inning to push the Viking lead to 8-1.

The Timberwolves rallied with three runs in the fifth and two runs in the seventh, but Emma Stephens was able to record the save.

Miller finished 1 for 4 and five RBIs while Chandler was 3 for 4 with three RBIs.

In the night cap, the Timberwolves jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the top of the first.

Big Bend was able to close the deficit to 7-6 after two innings before Blue Mountain tacked on two more runs in the seventh. The Vikings had a chance to send the game into extra innings, but only managed two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Chandler and Miller continued their bigs days with a home run each. Chandler finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Miller, King-Phillips and Kelsey Cearley each added one RBI.

The Vikings will try to work themselves back into playoff contention with a doubleheader against Columbia Basin today at home. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
