SOAP LAKE - Friends of former Soap Lake Police Chief Jim Dorris are having a spaghetti dinner Tuesday to help his family with medical-related expenses.

Dorris has been fighting cancer since October 2010 and resigned as chief last week due to medical reasons.

He may travel to Philadelphia in the near future for treatment, according to Friday's Columbia Basin Herald.

The benefit is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.. at the Desert Diner, 222 Daisy St. S., Soap Lake. Dinner costs $6.50 per person.

In addition to his years of service as police chief, Dorris has volunteered as a Boy Scout leader and helped organize the Soap Lake Box Derby.
