Bridal show draws large crowd

MOSES LAKE - Cake was on everyone's mind Saturday at the 2012 Bridal Show and Expo in Moses Lake.

Lines of brides-to-be, mothers of brides, and the occasional groom were waiting for mini cupcakes at the Classy and Crazy Cakes booth.

Donna Jensen, owner of Classy and Crazy Cakes of Moses Lake, said she decided to move her booth into the center of the bridal show after causing a traffic jam in the doorway last year.

"This is our biggest customer draw," Jensen said. "It's a very good place to get new customers."

Jensen said her business opened in April 2011 and she is still trying to get the word out. The bridal show offered her the opportunity.

"It's been going well," Jensen said.

Among the brides trying her cake was Renae Lischka, of Quincy.

Lischka, who recently moved back to Washington from Hawaii, said her friend, and bride's maid, Kim Sackmann suggested they attend the bridal show.

"Mostly we're looking for cakes today," Lischka said.

She said she enjoyed the cake samples offered by Jensen.

Sackmann said she invited Lischka, in part because they both had the day off.

"I knew we would be able to get a lot of wedding stuff done in one day," Sackmann said.

The event was an opportunity for Lischka's mother-in-law-to-be, Paulette Prchal, to spend time with her.

"I have three sons. It's been nice to go with my daughter-in-law," Prchal said.

It was also a chance for some one-stop looking for Lischka who is getting married in August.

"We're getting the last, little details done," she said.

Rose Cowger, of Urban Rose Photography, said she had seen a lot of brides looking to wrap up those last, little details.

"We've had a lot of people looking to book today," Cowger said.

Cowger, who traveled from Spokane, to host a booth at the bridal show for the first time, said the trek was worth it.

"It's a nice show. It's a good size," Cowger said. "We've been pretty busy."
