SOAP LAKE - It was a good night for Warden basketball Tuesday as the boys and girls team got a win on the road against the Eagles.
The first game of the evening saw the Lady Cougars jump out to a 32-13 lead at the half. The Lady Eagles kicked it up a notch in the second half of play as the team scored 19, but Warden, not to be denied knocked down 27 to blow the game open and come away with a 50-32 victory. The ever dependable Iris Rodriguez led the way for the Cougars with 15 points, 17 rebounds and five assists. Hannah Ahmann added 12 points and five boards, Haley Yamane contributed nine points, Brylee Whitney had five and Nicole Querra and Chelsea Brown finished with four points each.
The win over Soap Lake runs the Cougars record to 36 in the Central Washington 2B Conference and 6-11 overall.

Three players scored in double figures as the Warden boys put a hurting on Soap Lake 66-14 in the second game of Tuesday nights action in Eagle country.
The Cougars were led by Ty Jesse's 13 points and three steals. Garitt Marks added 11 points and Victor Flores finished with 10 points and seven assists. Jeremy Brown and Trent Bates just missed the double-digit column as the two scored nine points each in the win.
"It is not often that a team has it's best shooting night on the same night the defense turns in its effort of the season," coach Wes Richins said. "But that's what happened. We controlled the tempo, the boards and frankly, it was our night."
The game was a blowout from the start as the Cougars raced out to a 20-4 lead at the end of the first eight minutes of action, and led 37-10 at the half. Things actually deteriorated for the home team in the second half of play as Soap Lake was outscored by Warden 29-4.
The win for the Cougars improves their record to 6-3 in league play, which is good enough to secure third place in the Central Washington 2B Conference.
Warden shot 55 percent from the field and behind the arc and was 12-of-15 (80 percent) at the free throw line. The Cougars out rebounded the Eagles 31-20 and forced 20 Soap Lake turnovers.
"I wish we could save some of the stats tonight and trade them for tomorrow (Wednesday)as Kittitas is coming to town with playoff implications," Richins said. "The game will most likely be for third and forth place in league and for a better seed into Districts."
