WENATCHEE - There just may be a new sheriff in town.

The Moses Lake High School Chiefs girls swim and dive team looked up at Wenatchee last season when the Panthers won the Big 9 league title.

Now the roles could be reversed following the Chiefs 99-87 win Tuesday night.

"Moses Lake swam with a tremendous amount of heart and it was one of those times when the team just really wanted to win," Chiefs head coach Tony St. Onge said. "One of the many valuable purposes of high school sports is to challenge a team and bring out the best in individuals. Win or lose, this team challenged themselves and found out they have a lot of inner strength. Moses Lake went out and took this one from Wenatchee."

Moses Lake (3-1) won eight of the 12 races on the day.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Grace Hochstatter, Courtney Schwiesow, Alex Hammond, and Victoria Dalrymple took first for the Chiefs with a 2:01.13 to set the tone of the meet.

Other winners included, Kelly Garrett (200-yard freestyle, 2:14.99, and 500-yard freestyle, 5:56.94), Schwiesow (200-yard individual medley, 2:19.29, and 100-yard breaststroke, 1:11.06), Sammi Hendrickson (1-meter diving, 164.15), and Dalrymple (50-yard freestyle, 26.72, and 100-yard freestyle, 1:01.26).

Second-place finishes that helped the Chiefs cause included, Elaura Grant (50-yard freestyle, 27.66), Hailey Grant (1-meter diving, 152.20), Abby Johnston (500-yard freestyle, 6:04.31), Hammond (100-yard butterfly, 1:06.71), Hochstatter (100-yard backstroke, 1:09.20), the 200-yard freestyle relay team (Grant, Sydnee Jones, Kimberly Ledbetter, Dalrymple, 1:50.83), and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Hammond, Garrett, Grant, and Schwiesow (4:10.09).

Sophomore Haley Griffith was added to the district roster with a district qualifying time in the 100-yard breastroke.

"Haley tried all last year and has been trying all season and finally made it," St. Onge said. "It is great to see a never give up attitude."
