State Patrol advises drivers to slow down

COLUMBIA BASIN — Numerous accidents all over north central Washington Friday morning were attributed to frost and ice on the roads.

"There in Moses Lake we've had about six so far this morning, all caused by people driving too fast for the icy conditions," said Washington State Patrol trooper Rich Magnussen. "What we're asking people to do is just to give themselves a little extra time today and slow down."

In Moses Lake, the patrol was investigating "quite a few" collisions, and at least six accidents in Wenatchee as well. In Ellensburg, the Patrol was investigating a fatality on Interstate 90, which occurred about 7:30 a.m., when a tree fell down and struck a car. Magnussen did not know the identity of the driver.

Bobby Horst, Grant County Fire District 5 firefighter and emergency medical technician, said his district responded to accidents on Highway 17 at milepost 36 and provided mutual aid with Adams County on Interstate 90 at milepost 193.

Interstate-90 and Highway 17 were the two locations to have collisions so far, Magnussen said.

Jean M. Agbisit, 58, Moses Lake, was transported to Samaritan Hospital from I-90 for injuries to her shoulder, knee and back, according to the state patrol. Agbisit reportedly lost control due to icy conditions, crossed the centerline, drove onto the sidewalk and struck a concrete wall with her silver 2001 Lincoln Town Car. She was cited for driving with the wheels of her car off of the road.

"The big thing is just getting people to slow down this morning," he continued. "That's been the cause of all the collisions so far."

Friday morning accidents remain under investigation.
